Eventually, his findings became the basis for his book, A Search in Secret India.

Regardless of the culture or society under study, there is no such thing as a holy object or teaching that is held out in public as if it is common trash. As Brunton made his way through India, he met all kinds of people that tried to convince him that they knew the greatest secrets.  If you have ever felt skeptical of various paranormal claims, then you can well understanding the kinds of things that Brunton found at every turn.  While he found a number of people with legitimate occult power, he did not find the pure movement of spirit.   And so, he kept searching for a true teacher and a true path.  Perhaps it is important to note that he also trusted something deep within himself.  Without that gut instinct that he had not yet found a manifestation of pure enlightenment, eh could easily have wound up believing in thousands of others that offered their knowledge to him.

Finally, Brunton found a great sage at the foot of the Himalayas. The Ramana Maharishee, or Great Sage was the man Brunton had been searching for. Being able to find a true sage was an enormous feat in and of itself. Nevertheless, this book offers hope to the spiritual seeker. At the very least, if you can read about someone that has attained true enlightenment, then you have hope that you can also attain it. This alone makes for powerful reading material, as well as he kind of inspirational book that can keep you going even when you feel discouraged.
